New Work from Michelle East Germantown TN Artist

Jackson Square New Orleans, LA 2011
Just came back from an awesome trip to New Orleans. Who doesn't love the food and atmosphere of the French Quarter? I ate at some fabulous restaurants - http://www.arnaudsrestaurant.comhttp://www.muriels.com who claim a resident ghost, http://www.tujaguesrestaurant.com second oldest restaurant in New Orleans, http://www.stanleyrestaurant.com for comfort food at breakfast or lunch.

This week is a busy one. I am putting the final touches on my solo show opening next week at The Germantown Community Theatre.  http://www.germantowncommunitytheatre.org

I'll be showcasing my infrared photography series from the Bahama Islands. Traveling to the Bahamas in December of 2010 provided me with a wonderful series of images that I know you will love.  I hope this series takes you out of the cold and into the sun, at least in our minds!

The other part of the exhibit is promoting Breast Cancer Awareness in our community. I have photographed 8 women whom are survivors of breast cancer and their 16 x 20 portraits
will be displayed along with their bio.
Here are a few of my lovely and strong women survivors.
Please come out to see The Dixie Swim Club at The Germantown Community Theatre runs Feb 25- March 13 and take a look at my work in the lobby while you are there.  I will be attending the show on March 5th. Please join me!

The play is sponsored by Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Michelle East -Germantown, TN Artist

Recently I was able to spend a whole day studying with one of my favorite artists!

 Zoe Nadel   http://www.galleryzoe.com

Zoe is a local treasure here in the Memphis area and I am so blessed to call her my friend, as well as my teacher.  She founded the Germantown/Memphis Art League and her work is in many public, private and corporate collections. Her art work is available through her website or at The Fountain Art Gallery in Memphis on Poplar Ave. Check out her beautiful, thought provoking use of color, shape and form. It is exquisite.

About a week ago Zoe allowed me into her art studio where time stands still and magic is in the air.
I began by learning many of the basics that I had not been taught over the course of my art training.  Zoe is so patient, giving and encouraging as an instructor. Her studio is such a place of creativity and tranquility it seemed as though I was transformed into another world, so much so that I did not look up for almost four hours! Even then I didn't want to leave but I thought I had better get going before she had to kick me out! :)

"And however our stories end,  you have re-written mine by being my friend."
Thank you Zoe.

Zoe Nadel and eight other local women will be a part of a solo show that I am having at the Germantown Community Theatre Feb. 25 - March 13.  My art show will feature women in our community who have survived breast cancer and will be featured on a Wall of Champions! ( I will have other new artworks up as well.)  This is in conjunction with Baptist Memorial Hospital and our goal is to raise the awareness of women survivors.  The production at GCT is The Dixie Swim Club.  Please plan to come. I would love for you to be there. It is sure to be a lovely performance.  For tickets and more information http://www.germantowncommunitytheatre.org
