Michelle East - Award Winning Photographer Memphis & Germantown

This week I have been looking for inspiration in my fashion life and I turned to the one and only Coco Chanel!
I recently saw the movie on DVD -

Coco Before Chanel (2009)

Amazon.com: Coco Before Chanel: Audrey Tautou, BenoƮt Poelvoorde, Anne Fontaine: Movies & TV

I found Coco to be quite amazing and intriguing!  Such elegance and polish... so french!
This led me to research more about this woman. I have gone looking for quotes and pictures today
and even ordered a biography about her life on Amazon. I think it will be fun to get a glimpse of this lady and how she rose from poverty to become one of the most famous fashion designers of all time.
I will keep you posted regarding this fabulous woman but for now, here are a few quotes by Coco-

A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

As long as you know men are like children, you know everything!

In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.

Fashion fades, only style remains the same.

Till next time darlings,

Michelle East - Germantown TN Artist and Photographer

This week I was asked to provide a picture of a client for a funeral.  I think that this is one of the hardest parts of my job.  Usually I am celebrating with a family, capturing pictures of a new baby, a birthday or holiday pictures. This week was different.  Amidst the usual portrait sessions, I had to take time to go back through my archives and find a picture to celebrate a life that has now ended.

This has left a mark on me as I talk with the newly widowed woman.  It makes me sad and in a questioning mood.  This could be me. I could lose my husband or my life.  This could be any of us at any time. It makes me think - what am I spending my time doing? I only get one go around, each day is an important exchange that may never happen again.

I feel like I have been challenged to really think about how I spend my time.  Family, friends & neighbors are so important.  My passion is art and I want to create art that will give meaning to others. Whether that be through portraiture or paintings. I want others to smile, cry and laugh at what I create. It is not me that must come through but the gift of life.

CELEBRATE LIFE!
